Best Retirement Planning Services in Essex County MA

Essex County, situated in the northeastern corner of Massachusetts, spans over 800 square miles, with nearly half of this area comprising water. This land, steeped in history, was established on May 10, 1643, by the General Court of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, which decreed the division of the region into four territories known as ‘sheires.’ The county was named after its English counterpart, a common practice of that era, marking a significant chapter in the region’s history.

We build relationships and create solutions that stand the test of time

Initially, Essex County encompassed the towns of Salem, Lynn, Wenham, and Ipswich, along with Rowley, Newbury, Gloucester, and Andover. In 1680, Haverhill and Salisbury, located north of the Merrimack River, were incorporated into the county. Over the centuries, these original settlements have been further divided, forming the diverse collection of cities and towns in Essex County today. Notably, Essex County holds a unique place in history as the birthplace of the term’ gerrymandering.’ This term arose in 1812 when Elbridge Gerry, a native of Marblehead, crafted a voting district in an irregular, salamander-like configuration, sparking a national debate on political manipulation.
